Stay FAB under the rain!

By Jay-ar C. Luyas

With the onset of the wet season, do you have a hard time picking what to wear during school days? If you do, then your grief is over because The NORSUnian will share to you the latest fashion that is “in” for rainy season!

In this issue, we are sharing with you what’s in and what’s not to wear during rainy days. Remember that the rain is not an excuse to say goodbye to your fashion sense. You can still look fabulous even under the cold drops of water from heaven.

No money to buy new ones? Fear not, because we will also make sure that the following advices are approved by your pockets!

Say yes to jackets and sweatshirts!

Jackets and sweatshirts are just some of the many things that can make you feel warm this season. This year, sweatshirts with “hoodies” are reinvented with cute and colorful patterns and designs that will surely suit the taste of both sexes. Remember that it is a no-no to use leather and very thick jackets because they are very bulky and out of “fad” this season.

Also, you can use military inspired jackets (which can be found in your papa’s or uncle’s closet) together with a statement shirt to achieve a laidback style. Cardigans or knitted buttoned down shirts made with genuine fiber can also be a good substitute for jackets. They can easily warm you in this cold season. They are also light ones to carry in your bags.

It isn’t a problem if you don’t have the means to buy a new jacket, get your old jacket from your closet and stitch in them beads or flower designs which can be bought cheaply at the department stores in Dumaguete.

Timeless scarves

Scarves are one of the “must haves” whether during sunny or rainy season. Though cotton or knitted, they are said to be timeless and versatile. It is also considered as a statement piece that will standout, especially on rainy days.

The most used type of scarves nowadays are the Arab scarves. These are also known as “Keffiyeh” or “Shemags”. Most scarves these days are in jagged style which are used as headgears. There are also some who use it as an accessory by simply hanging them in their necks while wearing a plain white tee. Arab scarves can be bought in the department and Moslem stores in the city with prizes ranging from P70 to P100.

Under my umbrella

Bringing long umbrellas to school is okay but because it is inconvenient, it is more preferable to settle for the folded ones.

If you want to search for unique umbrellas, hit the major stores in town. You can surely find umbrellas that will match your personality – not only because of their colors but also because of their designs. There are some with cute bears on top of them as well as with cartoon designs like Hello Kitty, Pooh, and the like. At least, even if you wear a simple shirt and rugged jeans, people will still notice you because of your fabulous umbrella.

Bootleg, flared and baggy jeans are a “total mess”

Wear skinny and straight cut denims!

Tired and pissed off because of the mud sticking on the lower part of your denim pants? Then, start keeping these kind of jeans and stick with those which are suited for our muddy grounds. It will not only emphasize the curves of your body, but it will also save you from the tiring work of brushing those mudded lower parts of your pants.

Got no skinny pants? Then choose an old pair of pants and have it repaired. By simply doing that, you can save much than buying a new one. You can also save yourself from paying an additional bar of detergent soap.

Say yes to PVC bags

PolyVinylChloride (PVC) bags or bags that are made of plastic are very appropriate these days. Unlike tote bags which are made from cloth or canvas, plastic bags will not absorb water; thus, you won’t end up squeezing your bag and your stuffs drenched with rainwater.

PVC bags are available in variety of colors and styles. You must choose shades which are bright and fresh like yellow, pink, baby blue, and apple green because these will add spice to your getup. PVC bags having loud colors are usually found in magazines and they will surely make your wardrobe “in”.

Though our primary concern is to protect ourselves from the diseases brought by the rainy season, it wouldn’t be too much to be fashionable with our getups.

Keep your standards high. Standout even when you are under the rain by mixing and matching your clothes and by using accessories that will get the attention and nod of everybody. Be the fabulous you, even under the rain! Be fab!
